Network Wins Vertical Excellence Award in Liège

Network Wins Vertical Excellence Award at Liège Airport’s Cargoland Gala

We are thrilled to announce that Network Aviation Group has been presented with the Vertical Excellence Award at Liege Airport’s (LGG) inaugural “Cargoland” Gala. This award recognises our commitment to high-performance logistics and our specialised growth within the Liège hub, our primary aircraft base in Europe.

While the evening celebrated many industry milestones, the Vertical Excellence category specifically highlighted our ability to manage complex, industry-specific supply chains. From high-value goods to sensitive cargo, we’ve moved beyond standard freight to provide a truly specialised, end-to-end service alongside our global partners.

“This award is a massive recognition of our hard work at our European home,” our team shared. “A huge thank you to our global offices for driving this success and to Liege Airport for hosting such a fantastic event.”

This win reinforces our position within the Liège ecosystem. By combining precision ground handling with our expansive global route network, we’ve solidified our reputation as an industry leader in specialised logistics. We look forward to building on this momentum right here at our Liège aircraft home.

A New Addition to Network… Welcome ViaGroup!

Jonathan Clark, CEO of Network Aviation Group: “I am thrilled to announce that Network Aviation Group has successfully completed the acquisition of ViaGroup, a well-respected air cargo business based in Belgium. This is an exciting and strategic move that will significantly strengthen our position in the European market and enhance our capabilities for cargo movement, particularly to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Many of you may already know ViaGroup, which was established in 1993 under the name Demavia. Since 2015, they have operated as ViaGroup, building a strong reputation for managing cargo to key destinations like Kinshasa and Lubumbashi.

With this acquisition, we are not just gaining a business—we are gaining an incredible team. I am delighted to welcome Evangelos Kommatas, the CEO of ViaGroup, and his entire team into the Network Aviation Group. Evangelos brings a wealth of experience to our organisation, with a distinguished career that includes leadership roles at Trans World Airlines, Cargolux, Korean Airlines, and Cathay Pacific Airways. He is also a co-founder of Air Cargo Belgium (ACB), a testament to his commitment to the industry.

This is a great opportunity for us to combine our strengths and expertise and we extend a very warm welcome to Evangelos and the ViaGroup team. I am looking forward to the great things we will achieve together in the future.Network Aviation Group Acquires ViaGroup

Network Aviation Group Appoints Awery Aviation Software to Lead its Global IT Transformation

Network Aviation Group has appointed Awery Aviation Software (Awery) to lead its global IT transformation, designed to streamline and centralise its wide-ranging cargo operations.

The agreement follows a comprehensive review process during which Awery was selected to implement a fully integrated digital solution that will support Network Aviation Group’s scheduled freighter services, charter activities, and General Sales and Service Agent (GSSA) business.

“After a thorough review process, and detailed period of collaboration, we’re confident that Awery’s platform is the right fit for a business as broad and operationally diverse as ours,” said Jonathan Clark, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Network Aviation Group.

“Our focus is now on implementing systems that bring greater consistency, better data visibility, and smarter coordination across all our businesses.”

Awery’s software will replace a range of legacy systems and manual processes, with the goal of enabling Network Aviation Group to function as a digitally connected organisation.

The software will be rolled out across all divisions of Network Aviation Group, supporting freighter operations, cargo sales, airline representation and charter services.

“Network Aviation Group has a unique structure and wide reach, and it was clear from the start that any system would need to adapt to that,” said Vitaly Smilianets, Founder and CEO, Awery.

“Our teams have worked closely together to develop a solution that supports both standardisation and flexibility, so that each part of the business benefits while still operating in sync.”

The contract was finalised and signed at this year’s Air Cargo Europe event in Munich, Germany, where both companies were exhibiting.

Be sure to contact our friendly teams around the world today for the latest rates, availability and to book your cargo on our Network. You can find your nearest office by visiting our website at: www.network-airline.com/our-network for more information on how we can help you.

A New Focus on Mental Health at Network Aviation Group…

At Network Aviation Group, we’re committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels supported and valued. That’s why we’re proud to announce a new initiative…

Focused on improving mental health awareness across our company. We’ve introduced a team of Mental Health First Aiders, trained to be a first point of contact for anyone needing support. As well as creating an entire mental health awareness portal, containing statistics, top tips, as well as further internal and external support for our staff. This is a significant step in our journey to foster an open and understanding environment, ensuring that conversations about mental well-being are as common and comfortable as those about physical health.

We now have 16 newly-trained and qualified Mental Health First Aiders after they recently completed an in-depth training course over 4 days from MHFA England. Our MHFAs are: Adeline Sauvet in France, Bruce Otieno in NBO, Carissa Tomines in DXB, Daniel Gibbons in LGW, Debby Crawfurd in AMS, Dorothy Onchiri in NBO, Ellen Holzel in AMS, Evalinda Bayona in DXB, Jade Cameron in LGW, Luke Baker in LGW, Maria Benamer in DXB, Moses Mugga in LGW, Paula Roman in DXB, Ron Hein in ATL, Verity-Ann Harper in LGW and Yegana Bekirova in DXB.

We also had the profound honour of hosting two separate webinars with Steve Phillip from the Jordan Legacy Foundation. Steve bravely shared the heartbreaking experience of losing his son to suicide and spoke about his journey of mental resilience. His powerful story and invaluable insights have been instrumental in helping us better understand and approach mental well-being.

60 Seconds with Jonathan Clark, Network Aviation Group’s Chief Executive Officer

Jonathan has been with Network Aviation Group for over a year, having joined back in January 2024 and with his 35+ years of experience in the air cargo industry, the future of Network is bright and changing for the better…

How did you get into airfreight/logistics?

I was sent to the job centre by my parents after finishing school and waiting to start University. The careers officer had a book of jobs and the first one in her folder was under “A” for Airfreight. I was told it was a permanent job, however I was only looking for something to cover the summer. I went for the interview that day with MSAS Cargo International and got the job. Never looked back!

What quote has most resonated with you?

“Believe nothing you hear and only one half of what you see.” Edgar Allan Poe.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

A job worth doing is worth doing well. My stepfather always said this and it stuck in my mind.

What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?

Bungy jumping in Florida, rock climbing in the Dolomites, swimming with Dolphins in New Zealand and most recently motor racing at Spa Francorchamps.

If you could have dinner with any three people, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Winston Churchill: would like to listen to him talking about his life in politics while smoking one of his famous cigars.

Sir David Attenborough: I love nature and if I am not in the bush, then watching and listening to Sir David is fascinating. Can only imagine the untold stories that could be shared over dinner.

Guenther Steiner: Anyone that watches Formula 1 – Drive to Survive (Netflix) would understand this one. He has quite a story about starting the Haas team and he has such a great personality.

What’s something we wouldn’t know about you from your CV?

I really enjoy being at home with my family and my two dogs. Life is busy, but family life brings you down to earth. Nothing I love more than being on holiday with my Wife and son in our favourite place South Africa.

What hobby have you always wanted to try but never got around to?

I also wanted to skydive, which is funny as I am a bit scared of heights. If you hadn’t pursued a career in airfreight, what other field would you have liked to go into? Most likely motorsport or something to do with cars.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Very simple, the ability to heal.

What’s you proudest moment and your biggest regret?

Proudest: The birth of my son 17 years ago. Biggest regret: Not leaving a previous job sooner and realising there are better companies to work for.

If there was a movie made about your life, who would you like to see play the lead role?

Has to be a Scotsman, Sean Connery if he was alive or Ewan McGregor would make a good alternative.

Looking back over your career, what would your message be to someone considering a career in logistics?

Work for a really good company that makes you happy and the people around you are fun. Don’t take work too seriously and be prepared to move around to gain new skills and experiences. If you get the opportunity to work overseas grab it with both hands, those life experiences are precious. The airfreight industry is full of opportunities!

How do you motivate your team?

Listen to your team, take an interested in what they do, be positive, make time, never criticise and treat everyone with respect.

What is the one thing you can’t travel without?

My phone. I once left my phone behind when I went on an overseas business trip in Africa and that taught me a valuable lesson. Check and double check your essentials before any trip.

Who is your role model?

My stepfather without doubt was my role model. Generous, fun, kind, selfless, practical and full of wisdom.

What would your autobiography be called?

Learn and move on…

Cats or dogs? Dogs

Early riser or night owl? Early riser. Best part of the day.

What is the best and worse purchase you’ve made?

Best purchase would have been my home in South Africa. Worse purchase would have been a car I bought new some years ago. It had an engine fault from the second week and I should have insisted on a replacement. Had the car for three years and drove me mad. Live and learn.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your like, what would it be?

A dozen Mozambique prawns butterflied with some lemon butter on the braai (BBQ).

What’s your most used emoji?

Smiley face. 🙂
