Network Airline Services and Air Malta Support the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal

Network Airline Services and Air Malta have assisted the Royal British Legion by carrying a shipment of red poppies and other memorabilia onboard one of their operating aircraft from London to Malta.

John Gilfeather, Sales Director, says, “The Legion spends nearly £1.6 million a week delivering health and welfare support. They offer everything from bereavement counselling for families of those who have been killed in action, to helping those who have been injured get compensation and helping servicemen returning to civilian life.”

Last year, Air Malta raised a total of €29,000 towards the relief and welfare of Maltese and British ex-service men and women.

“We are delighted to support causes such as the Poppy Appeal, which helps raise awareness and funds for people who have sacrificed so much,” says John Vella, Air Malta’s Head of Cargo Sales & Marketing.

Network Airline Management (NAM)—a division of the Network Aviation Group—and Astral Aviation have signed a long-term wet lease with Air Atlanta Icelandic adding a factory-built, nose-loader B747-400F to their existing managed fleet of three MD11Fs. This will enable NAM to develop their presence in Africa, and especially the Kenyan perishables market, adding capacity for flowers and vegetables from Nairobi to the UK.

Andy Leslie, Group Chairman, says, “We are excited to enter into this agreement with Astral Aviation and Air Atlanta Icelandic and look forward to a long and successful partnership enabling us to further expand our network.”

Sanjeev Gadhia, Astral Aviation Founder and CEO, says, “The newly acquired B747-400F from Air Atlanta Icelandic will strengthen our position as a market-leader in perishable exports from Kenya to the UK market. Furthermore, the B747F will feed its intra-African network in Nairobi with cargo, which will be consolidated in its Liege hub originating from Europe and the US.

The B747-400F made its inaugural flight from Stansted (STN) to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi on Tuesday 7th November expanding NAM’s capacity to East Africa. The group expects to handle around 33,000 tonnes of perishable exports from East Africa to Europe per year. The nose-loader B747F will also enable the group to attract out-sized oil, gas and mining equipment for West and East Africa, which is expected to increase following the high oil prices experienced during the past week.

Gadhia adds, “While most foreign carriers are reducing their capacity to Africa, Astral Aviation remains ‘cautiously optimistic’ of positive growth in perishable exports to Europe and a strong south-bound demand from Europe to West and East Africa, fuelled by the growth in consumer demand for e-commerce and oil and gas equipment due to the improved fuel-prices.”

He concludes, “According to IATA, African carriers had the fastest growth in year-on-year freight volumes. However, growth is set to remain in double digits for the remainder of 2017.”

Baldvin M. Hermannsson, VP Sales and Marketing, Air Atlanta Icelandic, adds, “We are thrilled to start this new chapter in our wet leasing with our new, highly respected partners, Astral Aviation and NAM, and are pleased that our services and technology will further improve their offerings to the industry.”

Network Cargo Management(NCM) has extended their relationship with Avianca by taking over cargo sales and marketing in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

Both Caribbean islands are linked directly to Avianca’s hub in Bogota offering exporters a more direct and faster option into Latin America.

Andy King, Group Sales Director, says, “An office has been established in Santo Domingo, which will also serve the other carriers represented by the Network Aviation Group on the island; these include Air Canada, Finnair and Sunwing.

“The Dominican Republic will also be used as a connection point for Colombian exports to Europe using belly hold capacity, primarily from Punta Cana, an airport served directly from Bogota by Avianca.”

San Juan, Puerto Rico will be the group’s twentieth office in North America when it opens in January 2018.

In other developments, NCM has been appointed Cargo GSA for Brazilian carrier, Oceanair Linhas Aereas S/A, which operates as Avianca Brasil. The carrier operates daily from Miami to Sao Paulo and will commence flights from New York JFK Airport in December.

Network Airline Management has secured a deal with Doncaster Sheffield Airport who begin a weekly MD11 service from Nairobi to Yorkshire this week. It will be the airport’s first scheduled flight handling perishable goods opening up a major new market.

Dayle Hauxwell, cargo manager for Doncaster Sheffield Airport said: “We are delighted to be announcing this news so soon after seeing record cargo figures for last year.

“We’ll be working with Network Airline Management to handle a weekly scheduled flight from Nairobi with flowers and vegetables for the UK market. This deal will see some 3,500 tonnes of cargo transported a year. This new scheduled operation also opens up the opportunity for UK export freight.

“Our entrance into this new market is further evidence that the cargo operation has established an international reputation as the UK’s most freighter friendly airport. And we believe this is just the beginning, as the industry recognises the benefits offered by Doncaster Sheffield Airport. ”

The airport was certified as a dedicated port of entry for perishable commodities last year allowing it to access a significant global market.

With offices across the globe and handling over 70,000 tonnes of cargo annually, the Network Aviation Group heads up a complete division of wholly owned and inter-related aviation companies which started life over thirty years ago, and which has grown extensively since to cover virtually all aspects of aviation cargo sales, logistics and management of freighter aircraft.

Network Airline Management, the freighter division, operates a fleet of B747F and MD11F aircraft on a scheduled and charter basis throughout the world. Their international sales division, Network Airline Services, represents over 20 airlines globally in its capacity as general sales and services agent (GSSA).

Andy Walters, commercial director of Network Airline Management, said: “We are really looking forward to starting this new relationship with Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

“We selected to fly to Doncaster Sheffield Airport for a number of reasons. It offers a 24 hour operation without being slot regulated, is very freighter friendly and considerably less congested than other locations. It also has a very proactive team. Doncaster Sheffield Airport with their partners Anglo World Cargo work hard to deliver a tailormade service, and this really shone through in their approach.”
