NAS Remains as TCM Provider for KM Malta Airlines Despite Rebrand…

The newly established national airline for the Maltese Islands is now operational, originally announced in October 2023, carrying the name KM Malta Airlines. The new airline commenced operations on the 31st of March 2024 and… “would retain its current workforce and fleet size, whilst continuing to serve 17 important international routes, while building on the many strengths of its predecessor, but with a strong focus on long-term financial sustainability.”

The nation’s Prime Minister stressed the importance of connectivity for Malta, situated in the heart of the Mediterranean and the importance of having a national airline. “Malta’s new airline will prove to be a critical part of the infrastructure of the Islands, whilst the air connectivity the national airline provides is inextricably linked to the collective, economic growth and success of the Maltese Islands.

The Government of Malta stands as its sole shareholder.” The newly forged KM route network has been optimised for commercial efficiency, connecting Malta to the capital cities of Europe and primary airports of the European continent and beyond. The new airline will initially operate a total of seventeen routes, with increased frequencies added to some existing, mature routes to maximise aircraft utilisation and optimise commercial performance. The core network will be continually reviewed to identify new opportunities for further commercial growth.

The new airline will operate a single-type aircraft fleet, of eight Airbus 320 NEOs. Importantly, these modern fuel-efficient aircraft offer superior operating economics, better environmental performance with reduced CO2 emissions and noise pollution per passenger. In line with industry best practice, the fleet will comprise of a mix of owned and leased ownership aircraft.

KM Malta Airlines Renews TCM Partnership with Network Airline Services

Network Airline Services has provided a Total Cargo Management (TCM) solution to KM Malta Airlines’ predecessor, over the last few years, which has recently been extended for a further year. The agreement is now venturing into its 9th year of NAS providing Total Cargo Management solutions for the Maltese-based airline.

The TCM agreement has assisted the airline to vastly expand its cargo business as well as establishing itself in the global air freight marketplace, whilst increasing distribution channels. This has allowed the partnership to build a strong platform for future growth of its cargo business as an important revenue contributor.

Since the TCM agreement began, NAS has secured income for the airline month on month, year on year, whilst allowing a better synergy shared between NAS and KM including important functions such as sales, marketing, pricing and revenue management, cargo reservations, revenue accounting, back-office administration, IT systems, cargo handling and interline contracts. The Total Cargo Management agreement between the two companies will remain in place and will continued to be honoured where Network Airline Services has historically represented KM as its GSA and TCM provider.
