From London to the Mediterranean on Air Malta for these Fishy Customers!

100 mixed-sex Tilapia fish have been successfully flown into Malta onboard one of Air Malta’s Airbus A320 aircraft, from London Heathrow with the assistance of our Network Airline Services team based in LHR. Thanks to the team’s timely efforts and communication with the Air Malta teams, the fish are now settling in well at their new habitat in the 5 Star Mdina hotel, The Xara Palace Relais & Chateaux.

“I am really proud that NAS and Air Malta could contribute in our way to this project!” – John Gilfeather, Sales Director of Network Airline Services in the UK.

Michael Bourne from Brave Ecologic, said “We took a shipment of 100 live, mixed-sex Tilapia from London Heathrow to Malta to support a sustainable food system based on aquaponics and insect lifecycle. In our project, we take organic food waste, feed it to insect larvae, and use the larvae and other nutrients created along with them to make healthy fish feed. The feed them supports an aquaponic system that produces sustainable edible fish, flowers, herbs, salads and vegetables. Our produce is used in our kitchens, including the De Mondion Michelin Star restaurant in Mdina.

The shipment allows us to establish a breeding colony to keep a sustainable cycle of local food production and organic waste recycling without releasing CO2 or methane but instead absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere and keeping it in the food chain.”

This was a great project to work on and we welcome many more to come, so our team in LHR today for rates, availability and to book your cargo.
